PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

In performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees of Colorado River Indian Tribes are expected to conform to the following:

POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides support to the Colorado River Indian Tribes by identifying appropriate grants and other funding opportunities, responsible for researching grants, writing grants and the compilation and submission of funding proposals and grant applications as approved by the Tribal Council.

Responsible for monitoring compliance and reporting requirements, and identifying opportunities for enhancing long range funding prospects. The Grants Writer reviews the Tribes' needs In terms of grant opportunities, collaborates for collection of tribal statistical data and assists the Tribe with written notification of requirements for the grants to the department to ensure proper administration.

  • Follows established Tribal policies and those outlined In the Colorado River Indian Tribes Employee Handbook.
  • Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Manager or designee to fulfill the Department’s needs, objectives and/or goals.

MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Professional Writing or related field is a minimum requirement.
  • Master's degree in a related field preferred.
  • 2 years of relevant grant writing and contract administration experience required.
  • Two years working for a Tribal government, in grants writing preferred.

Licenses:

  • Employees must possess a valid current Driver's License at time of application and be kept current throughout employment.

Mandatory Knowledge, skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications:

  • Must have excellent writing skills necessary to prepare grant applications and handle confidential situations.
  • Must have working knowledge of government and private funding sources and practices.
  • Must have excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Must have the ability to organize/prioritize work, manage multiple tasks and projects and function effectively as a self-directed leader of multiple initiatives.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with others in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, vendors and the community.
  • Must have the ability to understand quasi-legal federal instructions and guidelines
  • Proficient with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, etc.), internet software, appropriate storage of electronic files and operation of a workstation (turning on/off, knowledge of basic functions and components) and general office equipment, use/storage maintenance of multiple usernames and passwords and computer related problem, problem solving skills through the use of available trainings and help desk.
  • Ability to multi-task as well as work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.
  • Must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative to those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate. Limited overnight travel may be required from time to time.

Physical demands;

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions. There may be prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Any lifting and/or moving over 50 pounds needs to be done in a team lift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with employee, vendors, and staff in individual, department, small and/or large group meetings.

Mental demands:

There are multiple deadlines associated with this position and the employee may be required to work long hours when necessary to reach goals. The employee must be able to handle frequent interruptions and must also multi-task and interact with a wide variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues. The employee must be able to adapt to changes in the work environment; manage competing demands; change approach or method to best fit the situation: be able to manage delays or unexpected events and use reason when dealing with emotional topics.

The Colorado River Indian Tribes has implemented a Tribal / CRIT Preference in Employment Policy. Pursuant to this Policy, applicants who possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required by this position, and who are enrolled members of the Colorado River Indian Tribes will be given primary preference in hiring and employment for this position.
